There are many resources on the web to find a flight school and training center in your local area.  There are also many resources online to help get you started and a better understanding on the process.  Our favorite is the AOPA Flight Training site at http://flighttraining.aopa.org.

Some Flight School FAQs

How old do you have to be to begin flying?  You must be 16 to do solo training flights.  Lessons may be started earlier, but it's best to wait until you can do the flights.

How long is the student pilot certificate valid?  Student pilot certs are valid for 24 months.

How much does it cost to get a Private Pilot Certificate? This will vary by your location, facilities, and many other factors.  According to the AOPA - a good guess is between $5000-$7000.

How long does it take to get a Private Pilot Certificate?  This will also vary by your facilities, location, etc. The minimum number of flight hours also depends on the type of school, but this is between 30-40 hours.  The amount of time it takes can be several months or longer depending on the school, student schedule, etc.

Where to find a flight school?

There are resources online at aopa.org to find a flight school, trainers, and more.  You can also look in the yellow pages to see if there is a local school.  If they have an office of some sort - try to stop by so you can pick up some information on that specific school, schedules, type of aircraft used for training, and other details that you'd want to know before starting.
