Some Flight School FAQs How old do you have to be to begin flying? You must be 16 to do solo training flights. Lessons may be started earlier, but it's best to wait until you can do the flights. This will vary by your location, facilities, and many other factors. According to the AOPA - a good guess is between $5000-$7000. How long does it take to get a Private Pilot Certificate? This will also vary by your facilities, location, etc. The minimum number of flight hours also depends on the type of school, but this is between 30-40 hours. The amount of time it takes can be several months or longer depending on the school, student schedule, etc. Where to find a flight school? There are resources online at aopa.org to find a flight school, trainers, and more. You can also look in the yellow pages to see if there is a local school. If they have an office of some sort - try to stop by so you can pick up some information on that specific school, schedules, type of aircraft used for training, and other details that you'd want to know before starting. |
