 ATA offers over 14 destinations.  The corporate headquarters is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. ATA Airlines' parent company is ATA Holdings Corp.  ATA Airlines was founded in August 1973 as American Trans Air by George Mikelsons to provide aircraft for the Ambassadair travel club. It began passenger service in 1986.  They Launched ATA Connection with Chicago Express in 1999. Because of confusion among customers, they formally changed their name from American Air Trans to ATA in 2003.

ATA Airlines' rewards program is called ATA Travel Awards.  They offer award tickets in exchange for points. Points are earned for each trip taken not by the amount of miles flown.  More points are earned if you book on-line.  A companion ticket can be earned with just 3 qualifying roundtrips  A coach roundtrip ticket can be earned with 6 qualifying roundtrips.  Elite Status is earned when you accrue 15,000 Travel Awards Points in a 12-mont period.  Elite Status members get priority boarding and preferred seating.
